Things to See and Do

Beaches , secluded or rowdy, and watersports are Acapulco's best attraction. Puerto Marques, a bay to the east which used to be a pirates hideaway, is great for diving and waterskiing, shell fish are served on the beach. You can ride horses or the waves at Revolcadero near Pierre Marques, a wide beach with strong surf. La Encantada, is full of mangrove trees at the foot of the mountains. Playa Caleta is popular with families, with calm waters and a small aquarium. Nearby you can catch a glass-bottom boat to the island "isla de la Roqueta, or you can rent your own boat to the island. You can see the marine life or the submerged Virgin of Guadalupe. On the island you can climb to the lighthouse "faro" for a bay view, or visit the zoo. You can rent equipment for snorkeling or windsurfing. Acapulco bay has alot to offer, you can jetski, waterski, and parasail. To the west for the more quiet beaches you can take a cab or bus to Pie de la Cuesta. the waters are too rough to swim, but have awesome sunsets. nearby is Laguna de Coyuca surrounded by vegetation for swimming as well as a boat trip around the lagoon to view the mangrove swamps. On the islet of El Presidio you can see tropical birds. On the isle of La Montosa, you can watch them catch fresh shellfish and shrimp and are served in the relaxed beachfront restaurants. A few blocks from the waterfront is the Mercado Municipal, here is where the locals shop. You can buy crafts, souvenirs, blankets and hammocks. Here bargaining is the rule. Flowers, fruits and vegetables are available here also. Papagayo Park is a city park with 60 acres of stuff to do. Ride the bumper cars, take the cable car to the top and see the view of the city, or you can visit the aviary.
